The calls that come in after five
Your AI receptionist does not knock off. It answers at 9pm on a Sunday exactly the way it answers at 9am on a Tuesday.
Most people ring a tradesperson or a clinic in the evening because that is when they are free, not because it is an emergency.
A Sunday night call
Nothing dramatic. Somebody with a job to book, at the only time of the week they got round to it.
Kia ora, Ferndale Plumbing. This is Ana.
Oh, I did not expect anyone. I just wanted to book someone to look at a leaking tap. Nothing urgent.
No trouble, I can do that now. Nobody is on site tonight, but I can put you in the book. Is Wednesday morning any good?
Said plainly that no one was working. Did not imply a callout was coming.
Wednesday is perfect.
Booked in, Wednesday morning. Steve will see the details first thing tomorrow and you will get a text to confirm.
Wrote the job in. Nobody was woken up.
That job would otherwise have been a voicemail, or more likely nothing at all. Most people who reach an answerphone on a Sunday night ring the next business on the list instead of leaving a message.
What this does not solve
Answering the phone at night is not the same problem as having somebody available at night. An AI receptionist takes the call, works out whether it can wait, and either books it or wakes the right person. It cannot turn up at the property.
If the actual problem is that nobody is on call, or that your roster keeps ringing the same poor sod every weekend, that is a different service and it is worth looking at properly. There is a whole site on it at callanswering.co.nz.
For everything else, which is most of it, this is the answer: the phone gets picked up, the job gets written down, and it is waiting for you in the morning.
Set your hours, and what happens outside them
Different rules for evenings, weekends and public holidays. Urgent calls still reach you. Everything else waits until Monday.
